Bloomberg: Vietnam surpasses Thailand to become the top attractive destination in the region for Chinese tourists.
In an article published on September 16, the international news site Bloomberg confirmed that Vietnam has surpassed Thailand to become the top destination in the region for Chinese tourists – the largest market in the world.
According to Bloomberg, this summer, Hu Jia and her family decided not to visit the famous beaches or majestic temples of Thailand – which are only a short flight away from her home in Sichuan province. Instead, she booked a two-week trip to Vietnam amid concerns about safety in Thailand. She feels that Vietnam has its own charm, maintaining a pristine and natural beauty, and she affirmed that she would return if given the chance.
Bloomberg reported that Hu’s family is part of a wave of 3.5 million Chinese visitors to Vietnam in the first eight months of 2025, contributing to the record growth of the Vietnamese tourism sector this year, while causing Thailand to lose its status as the top destination in the region for mainland tourists.

Statistics show that in the first 8 months of this year, Vietnam welcomed nearly 14 million international visitors – a record high, of which Chinese visitors accounted for about 3.5 million, an increase of 44% compared to the same period in 2024.
According to Bloomberg, this change has contributed to a 51% increase in retail revenue in Vietnam’s tourism sector as of August 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, according to data from market analysis firm BMI. Experts predict that Vietnam could welcome 22.6 million international visitors in the whole of 2025, surpassing the record of 18 million visitors achieved in 2019.
