World Tourism Day 2025 honors the role of tourism in promoting sustainable transformation.
World Tourism Day is a premier event for the global tourism industry, celebrated annually on September 27th with the aim of raising international awareness about the role, position, and importance of tourism in cultural, economic, social, and political life. In 2025, the theme for World Tourism Day is chosen to be ‘Tourism and Sustainable Transformation’ highlighting the potential of tourism as a catalyst for positive change.
In the message for World Tourism Day 2025, United Nations Secretary-General António Manuel de Oliveira Guterres emphasized: “Tourism is a powerful momentum of sustainable transformation. The tourism sector creates jobs, boosts local economies, supports infrastructure development, and contributes to growth that goes beyond conventional GDP indicators. Tourism helps connect people and regions; builds bridges between cultures; preserves traditions and revitalizes cultural heritage. Tourism reminds us of our shared humanity – as well as the richness of cultural diversity.”
The Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), Mr. Zurab Pololikashvili, affirmed: On the occasion of World Tourism Day, we together acknowledge and honor the special strength of the tourism industry in creating positive changes at all levels of society, especially in the context of a world facing unprecedented challenges and pressures. More than ever, we need to reflect and redefine the true meaning of tourism – not merely as statistics or economic revenue, but as the sustainable values that the industry can contribute to communities and our planet.
