Travel information for May 2026: Vietnam is the bright spot in Asia’s tourism growth
According to the documents, in May 2026, Vietnam welcomed nearly 1.8 million international visitors. In the first five months of the year, the total number of international visitors reached 10.6 million, an increase of 14.9% compared to the same period last year and the highest level ever for the first five months of a year. This result also corresponds to achieving 42% of the target of welcoming 25 million international visitors in 2026.
The largest markets sending visitors to Vietnam continue to maintain positive growth momentum, including China, South Korea, Russia, Taiwan (China), Cambodia, the United States, India, Japan, the Philippines, and Australia. Notably, the number of Russian visitors in the first five months of the year has reached about 90% of the total size of 2019 – the period before the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, the Indian market continues to emerge as a new growth driver and is expected to reach 1 million visitors this year.
